For the first time, the Washington State chapter of the International Coach Federation (@ICFWAState) is joining @GeekWire to offer 25-minute coaching sessions during the #GeekWireSummit in downtown Seattle, October 2-3, 2018. And I’m excited to participate!
“Coaching is entering the mainstream for people who want to advance to the next level, improve their communication skills, or reach a work/life balance that works for them,” said Sharmin Banu, current ICFWA President. “We’re excited to be able to offer a taste of coaching to demonstrate that coaching works, and helps people move forward towards achieving their goals.”
Coaching is no longer “the final attempt” to support an employee before they are fired. Companies of all sizes around Puget Sound are hiring coaches to help executives and employees figure out how to be their best in the workplace. The needs of my coaching clients have ranged from those who are looking more confidence in their “executive presence”, improving communication or wanting to solidify their skills as team leaders. Coaches help leaders become aware of their beliefs, develop a plan to create long-term behavior change, and then hold them accountable.
What would you like to use coaching for? Answer these few questions and help us shape our service for you.
A recent article Every Manager Should Have a Leadership Coach in ‘Talent Management and Human Resources’ quotes former Google CEO and chairman Eric Schmidt, “The one thing people are never good at is seeing themselves as others see them. A coach really, really helps.”
Choosing the right coach
When considering a coach for your company or yourself, Banu suggests the following:
- Ask for referrals
- Check references
- Review credentials and training
- Conduct interviews to learn about their coaching style and engagement format
